Community Partners

We are strongly committed to the greater Lutheran services such as Lutheran World ReliefLutheran Disaster ResponseELCA World Hunger Appeal and the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

Also, we generously support several local ministries to help those with financial needs. Some of these ministries include:  Daybreak Shelter NetworkSnow-Cap, English as a Second Language classes held at our building, Eastco Loaves and FishesHabitat for HumanityHouse of Zion, and Lutheran Community Services Northwest.

Fill a Bag for SnowCap: Snow-Cap is in need of food, especially tuna, applesauce, green beans, pasta, soups, and peanut butter. There are various drop-off locations, several in Gresham, but only one in Portland at 10401 NE Halsey. Go to the SnowCap website, to see other drop off sites.

Gethsemane Preschool Needs Your Help

  • Do you like to paint/refinish furniture? We have a few wood items that are still usable but could use a little sanding and painting to give them a fresh look.
  • Do you enjoy gardening? Our preschool courtyard needs someone to “adopt” it. The children use this area to play in, as the weather permits. We also have occasionally planted bulbs in the garden area. Particularly over the summer, when no one is in preschool, the weeds take over. We need someone who could help with the maintenance of this area. We could even plan for our preschoolers to help with planting some new bulbs in the garden area with this person. If you could help with either of the above projects, please talk to Karla Hills, 503/256-1835.

Pantry Help Needed–We need additional volunteers to help out in SnowCap’s pantry and there are many positions that quickly need to be filled. SnowCap has transitioned to a shopping style method and we need personal shoppers to assist our clients through the pantry. These volunteers will help families select food and assist them to their cars. The shifts are Monday – Friday from 10-2 and we need at least four volunteers for each of those days. If you can help please call the office at 503-256-1853 and we will get you signed up.

Pakistan Floods–The Critical Hour The recent flooding in Pakistan, alone, is a devastating disaster. But piled atop the hardship of the past five years, the situation for many families in Pakistan is nothing short of dire. Lutheran World Relief invites you to help. Please go to for more information on how you can help and for more stories about how LWR is helping throughout the world.
