Winter Coat Drive

I am going to tell you a story . . . This is a photo of a young girl with her sister from the former Daybreak Day Center from  2015. She and her family found themselves homeless. Mom was going to school to work in the medical field. The father not in the picture and they had no income to pay rent, as rents had increased exponentially here on the Eastside.
Anyway, this young girl who I will call Anna, attended school everyday. She loved school! Anna, her mom and sis were in the Daybreak program and spent many nights at our church.  We would sit after dinner and work on her homework while her mom got her sister showered and ready for bed.

I tell this story because Anna would go to school in the cold cold winter months even though her coat was basically useless as it had no hood, a broken zipper and too small. Fortunately we had a new coat for both her and her sister!

And look she got an award from her school for doing her best .  Here Anna was homeless, living at the day break center during the day and sleeping at churches at night and yet she persevered and worked hard at school. She told me she wanted to be a doctor.
It's hard enough in this atmosphere for children going to school at times.  Think how hard it is when your belly is empty and you are cold and have no home to call your own.
We can't do everything but we want to make sure these kids stay warm and toasty this winter. Think of 'Anna'.
This is why we have our Gethsemane Coat Drive. Please consider donating to keep a child such as 'Anna' and her sister warm this winter.
PS:  They did get housing after months and months of waiting.
