Pastor Elizabeth

Reverend Pastor Elizabeth Durant

Pastor Elizabeth Durant is a feisty, joyful, Protestant (emphasis on “protest”) pastor who finds herself delighted and surprised to serve a Lutheran congregation. Educated at Willamette University (BA, Politics, 1996) and Marylhurst University (MDiv, 2013), she is ordained in the United Church of Christ. She served First Congregational Church in downtown Portland for many years, and has held interim and supply positions throughout the Metro area.

Pastor Elizabeth has presented papers on anti-racist biblical interpretation for the American Academy of Religion and Pacific Northwest Society of Biblical Literature conferences. She is a certified facilitator of “Sacred Conversations to End Racism” (UCC), and currently accompanies the ELCA Oregon Synod cohort in the “Reckoning with Racism” project led by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon.

A first-generation German American, Pastor Elizabeth and her wife Sadie have lived in Parkrose for 15 years. They are moms to two amazing children: Ellie (8) and Naomie (4). Their household includes two cats, two rabbits, and an abundance of Legos, mermaids, dinosaurs, and books. Pastor Elizabeth serves on the Parkrose School District Board of Education and the MESD Regional School Board Equity team. Before the pandemic, you could find her in the science fiction stacks at Midland Library or in the pool at East Portland Community Center.
