GLC/CPUMC Hosting Weeks for Family Promise 2026

  • January 25-February 1
  • June 21-28
  • September 13-20
  • November 1-8

We completed our first year of hosting for Family Promise in October. Thanks to everyone who supported this work by planning, donating money or shopping for food/supplies/beds, advocating for grants to buy beds (thanks to Thrivent and Montavilla Kiwanis Club), attending the volunteer training, bringing dinner, being there for our guests in the evening and overnight shifts, setting up and cleaning up, providing beautiful quilts, working out alternative spaces for other groups to meet, and praying.

There are trainings for new volunteers offered every first Tuesday of the month at Community of Christ Portland (4837 NE Couch St.) Please email the Family Promise Volunteer Coordinator, Flame Rayhawk, at volunteers@pdxfp.org for more information and to RSVP. The next two the trainings will be December 2 and January 6. There is not an option for online training at this time.

Lessons and Carols Service

Music with Twinkle Lights

Dec 28th - Service of the Word

Lessons and Carols is a long-standing tradition to gather and read and sing our way through the Christmas texts and hymns on the Sunday after Christmas. This service will include multiple readers and leaders, and many, many favorite hymns. There will be no communion at this worship service.

FAMILY CANDLELIGHT WORSHIP

Christmas Eve 4:00 pm

The usual Candlelight worship earlier in the evening for those who need to get to bed for Santa’s arrival! (OR for those who just need to get to bed!) The sermon will be more interactive to include our giggles and wiggles.

CANDLELIGHT WORSHIP

Christmas Eve 10:00 pm

The usual Candlelight worship…earlier than midnight so Pastor is still awake enough to preach! All ages are still welcome, but pew naps are to be expected. 🙂

Longest Night Worship

Starry Night Graphic

December 21st 2:00 pm @ Russellville Park - FOR EVERYONE!

Starry Night Graphic

Through a growing partnership with Russellville Park, we will gather together for a service where we hold space for the grief and pain that often accompanies the holiday season, but is hard to acknowledge or make space for amidst the hustle and bustle.

Longest Night/Blue Christmas is for all those for whom Christmas is hard and whose hope this season is hard-won. Containing elements of our beloved Holden Evening Prayer worship as well as other appropriate sung prayers, we will share this service with the community at Russellville Park in the West Building Theater (23 SE 103rd Ave). Carpooling from church is encouraged! Coffee and cookie reception hosted by Russellville to follow.
