MINISTRIES

Gethsemane Quilters

Quilts laid on the backs of the pews inside the church

Gethsemane Quilters meet most every Thursday from 9-11am in the community hall. Contact the church office for more information and come join us for fellowship, quilting and FUN! No experience necessary!

These quilts end up going to all sorts of good causes from Lutheran World Relief to Boxes of Love to occasional neighborhood needs.

Coats for Kids with Paint Background

The Coats for Kids warm winter coat drive aims to put every child at local schools in a warm coat each winter. Through grants, GLC special offerings and contributions from community members, this ministry has kept growing each year, reaching more schools and helping meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our neighborhood.

Join us each Fall for our big giveaway event! Watch our Facebook and Instagram for updates.

GET INVOLVED

Donations for warm winter coats are accepted year round – please contact the church office if you are interested in helping with distribution or making a tax-deductible donation to the Gethsemane Warm Winter Coat Drive and ensure a child has a warm coat this next winter season!

Family Promise Shelter Program

Four weeks a year, GLC hosts overnight guests through Family Promise of Metro East supported by their staff and navigation specialists who accompany families in the program into more permanent housing. We know that in East Multnomah County, houselessness affects families with children and the BIPOC community disproportionally and we know that finding temporary shelters is hard, especially when so many overnight shelter programs are geared towards single adults.

We want to help be part of a community-wide solution to our housing crisis and be a safe place for families in East County to feel supported and loved. Along with Cherry Park UMC, we help provide volunteers to make and serve meals, host the families in our facilities and provide a safe space for the week. If you’re interested in learning more or volunteering, contact the church office for more information!
